short hairstyle

I often get emails or comments that they wish their daughter's hair was longer or thicker or not so much in the mullet. Most everything I post - you can do on anyone - although some things you may have to simplify. I watched my little niece the other day & she did not want her mom to do her hair but when she was over, I asked if I could do it & she said yes. I thought it was a good chance to show a little girl with short hair & something fun you could do with it.
First, I wanted to show you what I was working with.

I started by parting her hair on a side slant. Going off of that slant, I sectioned the top half into piggies (scroll up to the top picture to see how I parted going off the side slant part)

Now go back & decide what side you want to start on & begin to make piggies directly underneath the first row of piggies. As you go along, cross over the top piggie, doing this all the way across.

When you get to the end, just bring the ends both together to make your side piggie. We didn't pull her hair all the way thru but then pulled strands just to give it a messier look.

Here's the front view. She would not smile normal so you get the pirate eye.

So now here's how my girlie's hair ended up being with this same style:

We did the exact same steps as I described but added a little "twist" to it. As you cross over each piggie, just twist over each other & pin one side while you are securing the other with an elastic.

Don't mind the very ornery face (she wanted to turn the camera on by herself so I don't get a smile) We left the pony tail down instead of pulling it into a messy bun & curled. Super easy - but a little different than the first!!

I'M BACK!!!

I said I wouldn't be posting as much & I looked at the last time I did - & it was 2 weeks ago. Where did the time go? I can't believe the Holidays are over & life is about to go back to normal. So I can get back to posting again. 

So this did take a little bit longer - just because you have to braid all the pieces. I guess if you didn't have the time- you could just leave them straight. 

Split the hair down the middle. On each half, I divided it into 4 sections & braided. 
I wanted to show on each half I braided the first piece, then I split the next section into a triangle - like you see - & then parted it from the section to the ear to go as a guiding line what to divide. 
Okay - so now we have all 8 braids -ready to weave away. 
I started by criss-crossing the first two braids & put into 2 pigtails. Then I went to the next braid & so on until they were all added into the pony. But I did over/under with each braid so it looked like a weaving effect. 
Here's what it looked like when I had all the braids pulled back. 
I braided the piggies with some whispies sticking up at the top to flip back over the braids. Add your cute bows & you're finished!! 

Crossed-Over Piggies

Part the hair down the middle. Then you are going to do half up piggies so part where you would pull the hair up. Now, part that in half & grab opposite ends together. So the back left & front right.

Bring those 2 together to make one piggie.

Do the same to the opposite side to make it cross over the first piggie.

Do your messy buns on the top to finish it off. Add your cute bows & you're done. (& I have to give credit to hair4myprincess - I was able to figure out how to do the links...thanks for your help:)

Cross-Over Braids

I'm sorry I haven't posted anything in a few days. I've actually been trying to post the video on french braiding but I think I may have a virus on my computer & it keeps booting me off. So I'm going to try on another computer & get it up for those of you who want to see it. I also had a few requests on doing the inside-out french braid (the braid i did today) & the corkscrew twist (twist braid). In the future I will show those on a video also.

Here's today:
First, part the hair straight down the middle.
Next, part the hair in half. Pull two opposite sides up & secure with elastic. You are going to be french braiding at an angle with what is left out.
Start your braid, start at an angle.

It really is easier than what you think - you just don't grab any of the hair in the elastics & that keeps it easy.
Let down the rest of the hair & start braiding that side at an angle, also. If I were to do this again, I would try to make where they meet in the middle & cross just a little higher. That has to do with the way you part the hair in half.

When I was crossing over, I had no more hair to grab until I got to the other side, so I did a few braids without pulling hair up into it & then continued doing a normal french braid once there was hair to pull up again. It may not make sense until you try it yourself.

Take a comb to the side & smooth out any bumps. Spray to hold. I dried the ends of her hair & curled them under. Where her cross over was lower than what I would have liked - I didn't add bows so it didn't cover the cross-over. If it was higher, I would have added some.

Braided Piggies

Divide the top in 3 sections.
Braid the 2 sides & leave the middle straight.
Divide the middle in half & add to pony along with a braid crossing over it.

Do the same to the other side.
Braid the piggies & flip the braid over so it is in half & add your elastic.

I sprayed the ends a little so they flipped over the ponies & looked curled. You could use a curling iron if that's easier for you.

Another Criss-Cross do

Start this on the side instead of straight on to get the slanted look.
It's kind of hard to tell in this picture, but these are on the side, not centered, so that it angles down to a side pony. Section the hair into 3 pieces & add your elastics.
Next, do the middle section first. Pull the previous pony straight back into it. Then do the 2 sides, criss-crossing over the middle piece.

I criss-crossed twice. I probably could have gone one more time, so whatever works for you.
It ends with 3 strands left over. I pulled them together in the middle (& if you didn't do all of it, like I did, remember to pull the hair up). Pull it to the middle to make a side pony. I just did a messy bun, but do what looks best.
Add a cute bow & that's it. Spray to hold better.

the RESULTS from yesterdays braids

I SO wished I braided all the way to the ends - but atleast the top part looks cute, right? I gave her a bath this morning without getting her hair wet at all.

When I took the braids out, I applied polmade all over so it wasn't so frizzy & didn't have that slept on look. I wanted her bangs to be out of her face - so this is what I did:
If you want to do "laces" like she has this is what I did:
Do them CLOSE together. Notice how small my chunks are. Part the hair straight down the middle & add your 2 elastics. Cross the ponies over & add your next 2 elastics.
Go as far down as you would like. I think this would have been easier if her hair was damp (not frizzy) but it still turned out okay.
I curled the ends of her hair with a curling iron...still wishing I braided further down. Oh well:)
I sprayed her hair with hair spray to keep the cute wave. This was such a time saver & I probably could have let her gone another day sleeping in the braids.
